Wow, twice in 2 days! The big guns are coming. How great!

Steve, I think that Randy's approach in introducing us to you, left a horrible taste behind. I didn't want to dig your playing. But I had to. It's pretty amazing.
SDK(no offense), is one of those guys that believe's time should be click perfect. I happen to disagree. Some of the best grooves in history were all over the place.
The section SDK was speaking of is far from all over the place and is nearly perfect AND it feels great to me. Like SDK, because of Randy I was looking NOT to like your playing. It blew my face off though.

Sorry to go off topic here but...

I read the "HOD" thread over at Hass' forum and was utterly disappointed. The flat out bad mouthing and generalizations made about HOD and the members that post here was insulting. Well, as insulting as anonymous ramblings on the Internet can be I guess...

If I'm heading to Boston on any tours anytime soon and have a day off, I would love to hook up for a lesson. Maybe you can come down to Boston and we can hang at my old school. I need to visit my boys up there. Dave D, Casey S...I miss that hang.
One thing cats don't realize is that you can learn from everyone. We can all take lessons from each other! Erskine said it best about knowledge in the Big Band thread.

This is awesome. These threads just took another step up...when I first came in here a few yrs back, I knew by 99% of the postings here that it was one of the better places. It's proving to be right again... ;c)

I'm all for us putting all those questionable posts in the near past to rest, & getting on w some real mature, informative discussion, like it was whe I first came in here. I see it's already getting back to that...a good thing. What say you guys [& gals]...?

I really felt a great deal of warmth and friendliness in hteselast posts. They truly thrilled me. I wanted to take a moment to address of few of you directly.

(1)SDK--I was hoping we would make some contact. Needless to say, I think your gesture of apology in your recent post was a noble one. We ALL say things we later regret--I've done so many times myself. To make amends in a public forum as you have done takes great humility. I accept your apology without reservation and am delighted to number you among my fellow drum comrades--may our tribe increase!

(2)Flarobstix--Although you are correct in saying things didn't get off to the best start, I'm glad to see things have taken a turn. Your words were very kind. I am hoping all parties involved in the little squirmish could be good friends and laugh about it!

(3) Steve Hass--Hello! Steve, I would love to get together with you; you're a wonderful player!Lets make it a two-way lesson, my friend. I agree with you one-hundred percent that drummers can and should learn from one another. Music is about sharing, expressing, and creativity. A drummer should be excited about air molecules bouncing around at polyrhythmic velocities, regardless of whether it is he or someone else doing the playing. Yes, let's trade numbers!

(4) BennyAndTheSkins--Thank you! Yes, it seems as though I've been involved in a lot of "roots" projects lately; i.e., artists paying homage to their musical mentors. Your comments make me feel very welcomed!

(5)Zak Morton and got_a_match_grip?--Thank you Zak and Got_a_Match for your sensitivity to the recent posts in question. It seems that whenever people start to open up with one another,words sometimes creep in that were not wisely or kindly chosen. This is human nature; it's bound to happen sooner or later. I've always believed that the issue is not so much that this happens, but how one responds when it does. The fact that SDK and others came in to the thread and said what they did is an indication to me of better things on the horizon for the board at HoD. Let us learn from all things, whether positive or negative. After all, a bit humbling is good for our character.

(1) For "Panic Attack," the fast song with the 4 over 3 swing ostinato against the 4/4 backbeat (along with some interesting liner notes on the recording of that song), go here:

You'll have to scroll down the page a bit to the place where that song is being discussed. This clip actually has the groove I mentioned. I break up the ostinato between the ride and hats midway through to create a subtle sense of build.

Steve just recently redid his website. Click on "listen."

(2)"One Thing after Another" is the tune I did on Steve's first CD "From Your Heart and Your Soul." It's a crazy uptempo shuffle tune with a lot manic playing from everybody--everybody kind of going nuts! This is when I first met Steve Hunt. You can hear one of the more "active" drumming sections of that tune here.

(3)-(4)"Croaker" and "Mr. Crum" are also here. The drum solo isn't here for "Croaker," but the band was churning some nice energy in this clip.

(5) The "Neuro Man" clip begins at the end of a drum solo. This is off the most recent CD "Nebula."

Hi and (belated)welcome to the HOD board. I've been a lurker around here for a few years: learning and listening from these wonderful guys. As previously mentioned, you won't find a better board or a better group of core guys in Steve Holmes, Derek DeFields, Randy Walker, Got A Match Grip, Peter C, (it blows my mind sometimes to say)Peter Erskine, Gary Husband and so many others. Your reputation preceded your first post by mere days when Randy first introduced you and your playing to the boards. I'm so glad that he did. I haven't purchased your music yet but have heard many samples and plan to order in the near future. I'm looking forward to hearing more wonderful insights from you.
